Opening Ceremony: 5 Aug 2015, 5PM
Same as many modern cities in Asia, Hong Kong’s waste generation rate is very high. Teaching our young generation about recycling is essential for a sustainable future. One of the best ways to achieve this goal is to invite our next generation to participate in the activity. Therefore, the Public Design Lab has invited 100 primary school children in different districts of Hong Kong to be the Sustainability Ambassadors. The Sustainability Ambassadors have to attend a seminar and a hands-on workshop to learn knowledge about environment protection, and promote sustainability development in their schools and homes.
The seminar has been held on 28 Feb 2015. The Environmental Education Officer of Environmental Protection Department, Mr. Raymond Liu, and the Promotion Officer of Yan Oi Tong EcoPark Plastic Resources Recycling Center, Miss Elaine Ngai, were there to give talks about recycling and environmental sustainability. Five hands-on workshops have already held for children in April and May 2015. Assisted by the lectures and researchers of PolyU Public Design Lab, the participating primary school children have designed and made their own recycling bags. This exhibition is to exhibit the learning outcome achieved by the students in the hands-on workshops, and how they made use of their bags at schools and homes. We hope that through this exhibition, we can increase the awareness and encourage young generation’s participation in environmental sustainability.
