Under the industrial revolution, Western design power has far exceeded the East in many aspects over the past century, however, there is a movement the world is starting to notice how the East is thinking, and how we are influencing the world from our economical strength. This class, we will begin to analyze the downfall of some of the issues we have been facing in Asia in particular Taiwan and China, but more importantly, what is our strength, to have our own language in communicating to the world.

Johnny Chiu, Founder of J.C. Architecture
Johnny Chiu, the founder of J.C. Architecture and OUT Scholarship, is recognized for his fresh perspective and concept-driven work. He is the first Taiwanese designer to win WAF/INSIDE World Interior of the Year. His other accolades include five Taiwan Interior Design Gold Award, and Red Dot: Best of the Best. His provocative and unconventional design works have made him a key figure in defining design in Asia and is often invited on the jury panel of esteem design competitions such as U.S.’s International Interior Design Award and Taiwan Golden Pin Design Award. He also often guest lecture at many universities, including the prestigious Royal College of Art in London.
