Dr Shih joined PolyU Design as Assistant Professor in 2020, where he has made contributions in three areas: teaching, research, and service. In addition to doctoral supervision, he also teaches undergraduate subjects, including year one Design Thinking, year 2 Branding and Processes, year 3 Toy Design, and year 4 Integrated Capstone. He has actively guided undergraduate students to win design awards https://www.productdesignaward.eu/winners/epda/2021/10238/, and to publish journal articles http://www.cad-journal.net/files/vol_19/CAD_19(4)_2022_694-711.pdf with conference papers in IASDR 2021, EPDE 2022 and NordDesign 2022.

PolyU Educational Development Centre (EDC) invited Dr Shih to share his teaching experience in cultivating students’ research skills and guiding students to disseminate research outputs within and outside the subjects at PolyU webinar. The topic is "Expanding Research Elements in Subjects: Promoting Students’ Outcomes beyond Subjects"    https://drive.google.com/file/d/1PLsKQJtyGryfYze19c4MD4eaoRjTsppE/view?usp=sharing. For Toy Design, Dr Shih seeks an international toy industry to share their toy design expertise and create a supportive learning environment where students have the opportunity to maximise their academic potential. Most recently, Dr. Shih received an international toy industry grant to support the subject's teaching and learning activities. One of the project objectives of the industry-university teaching collaboration is to cultivate more young toy inventors for Hong Kong.

Dr Shih obtained a PhD from the University of Newcastle Australia where he received a postgraduate research prize in design, and the AIB chapter president’s research award. Recently, he awarded a government research funding (HK$2.78million) https://www.polyu.edu.hk/rio/news/2022/20220111_ten-polyu-research-projects-granted-research-impact-fund-and-collaborative-research-fund/. In addition, he received another important research grant from PolyU (HK$1.935million). These research grants enable Dr. Shih to achieve a higher level of research impact in the field of design.

Dr. Shih has been invited as the top journals' reviewer such as Design Studies, and Computers & Education. His creative work, Wine Stopper, has received a special recognition by PolyU 85th Anniversary Committee Celebrating PolyU’s 85th Anniversary Share Your Ideas | The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He also received IDEA design awards: https://www.idsa.org/awards/idea/childrens-products/animal-dough-hair-playset. Finally, he co-hosted the Dyson Design Awards introductory sessions at PolyU Design in 2021 and 2022, and was the School of Design's representative for the undergraduate information session https://www.sd.polyu.edu.hk/en/past-event/geo-jee-seminar-202012. He was a member of the Selection Panel in PolyU Design for Hong Kong Disney Internships in 2021 and was a member of the Selection Panel in Arts and Culture for PolyU JUPAS applicants in 2022.
