Dr Oh has had a big passion for Film and Animation since her childhood and was a big fan of Sunday kids’ channel which broadcasted different kinds of animation content. She grew up with a big movie goer family in South Korea so it has been very natural for her to pursue the career in Film and Animation since she was young.
She went to USA for her master’s degree at the University of California, Los Angeles and earned a Master of Fine Arts in the School of Film and Television. After obtaining her master’s degree, she went back to Korea to start her teaching career as well as working in animation and live action film industry. While working in the industry, she decided to further her studies to become a person who is knowledgeable with both practical and theoretical areas and be able to oversee from a wider angle.
She was awarded her PhD from the Department of Performing Arts, Film and Animation at the Sejong University in South Korea. While she was enrolled in the PhD course, she joined the Singapore Polytechnic as Lecturer to teach animation, observational drawing, and studio practice for students from Diploma in Games Design and Development. Before joining the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, she was the Lecturer-in-charge for Animation Arts at the LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore who was responsible for teaching, building curriculums and managing the diploma and degree programmes.
Her research interest is to develop the usage of animation content across theme parks within Asia with the help of students’ focus group, realism in animation, emerging animation industry in Asia, relations between theme parks and media industry as well as nurturing local creative industry.
