Designing the Latin Way by Luis A Angarita

When we talk about "the Latinos" some ideas come into our minds: Latinos are happy, Latinos are party, Latinos are dance! However, what is the Latin design?

Today we live in a globalized world, with a simple click on Facebook, we feel closer to each other, but somehow over the last decade, we feel that we are losing our identity or maybe it is easier to recognize our differences through this kind of ubiquity?

Asians and Latinos are located on the opposite side of the hemisphere. Despite globalization, it seems that we remain a complete mystery to the other.

As a winner of the "Red Dot”, the Special jury prize Arts-Business Award of Montreal, three times the steel pencil award and nominee as an Innovator of America, Luis Angarita - Chief Executive of Innovation of CD&I Associates, will talk about all these aspects.

He has not only designed products from massive plastic injected glass and laser cutting technologies to crafts with Amazonian indigenous communities, but also high-end product designs, marketing strategies, innovative brands and experiences and created design icons recognized in various exhibitions, publications and contests.

Luis is a Colombian Canadian who has lived, studied and worked in Italy as well as in different Latin American countries. He will set out how the Latin influence is reflected in his projects, what we can learn from this, and how our culture can serve as a source of inspiration to give local solutions to global problems and vice versa.
