Horace Pan, one of the most renowned Hong Kong interior designers in the recent decade. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Interior Design and Master of Arts degree in Design from School of Design, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. In 2003, he established his own interior & branding design practice PANORAMA.
Pan’s works have received over 50 international awards including US’s IDA Design Awards, iF Design Awards China, China’s Most Successful Design Awards, The Ring - iC@ward International Interior Design, Asia Pacific Interior Design Awards, Hong Kong Designers Association Global Design Awards, Perspective Design Recognition Awards, Design for Asia Awards Finalist, UK’s FX Award finalist, Netherland’s Great Indoors Awards Finalist, US's SPARK Design & Architecture Awards Finalist and have been featured in numerous international design magazines & journals including Netherland’s FRAME, Japan’s World Hyper Interiors, Singapore’s ISH & d+a, Korea’s Interior World & bob. Pan received Hong Kong Ten Outstanding Designers Award and China Entrepreneur Award in 2008 & 2010 respectively. He was the only Chinese among the 10 invited international designers in 2011 Taiwan International Interior Design Exhibition.
Pan has furthered his professional career in the field of design education and joined School of Design, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as assistant professor in 2005. He is frequently invited to be the guest speaker of international & local design conferences and seminars. Pan dedicated continuous efforts in serving the industry and is now the Vice-Chairman of Hong Kong Interior Design Association, Executive Board Member of International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI), Advisor of Design / Marketing / Licensing Services Committee of Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Admission Panelist of the Design Incubation Program of Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation.
Pan’s research focuses on the professional practice of environment & interior design in Hong Kong and PRC. He was the Principal Investigator of a Polytechnic University-funded research project in 2008 entitled "From Certification to Licensing – Statutory Professionalization of the Interior Design Industry in Hong Kong", a study on the feasibility of setting up a licensing system for interior designers in Hong Kong.
In 2009, he led the team in organizing a successful “Go Pro! RIDA seminar Series”, in which speakers from the USA, Europe, Greater China, Malaysia joined local professionals in addressing issues relatiing to interior design professionalisation. The seminars, which included such topics as the state of interior design profession in Europe and the USA, the development of the profession in Greater China, fire safety, building regulations, code of professional conduct, intellectual property rights, interior design research and continuing education and the legislative process for interior design registration, have been well-received by the local interior design community. The project was funded by Hong Kong Government’s DesignSmart Initiative.
In 2010, being endorsed by IFI Pan has led the HKIDA team to coordinate the Asian think tank groups for the DFIE Global Think Tank Initiative, whose members included Malaysia, South Korea, Indonesia, Japan, China and Hong Kong. The Think tank discussions have been culminated in a public symposium t held in Hong Kong during the BODW events in December. Pan presented the proceedings and conclusions in the IFI global conference held in Feb 2011 in New York.
In 2011, Pan conducted the first comprehensive survey of the interior design profession in Hong Kong and the most thorough study out of all the design disciplines ever attempted "Survey on the 2Es of Interior Design in Hong Kong—Education and Experience". This survey is sponsored by the Hong Kong Interior Design Association with funding by Hong Kong Government’s DesignSmart Initiative.
