Scot Laughton’s awarding-winning design studio has been designing lighting, furniture and products for the residential and contract market for over 20 years. His expertise lies in the seamless integration of design, functionality and engineering.
His clients include BMW, McKinsey & Company, Royal Ontario Museum, Keilhauer, Avenue Road, Lolah, Nienkamper, Teknion, Lolah, Pure Design and Umbra in North America; Asianera, Contrasts Gallery and Portfolio Studio in China. Laughton’s work has won many awards – including the Strala lamp designed as his thesis project at the Ontario College of Art was selected by Time Magazine as one of the top ten designs of 1987, the 2002 Editors Award for Best Furniture for Lolah’s debut collection at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York City and he was named Designer of the Year (2003) by the Interior Design Show, Canada. Most recently, the Plateau Credenza System, for Portfolio Studio won the Silver Award, HKDA Global Design Awards 2011.
The Royal Ontario Museum and the Design Exchange in Toronto have acquired his work for their permanent collections. Laughton has taught at the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto and has conducted workshops at the Cooper-Hewitt Design Museum in New York City and other venues throughout North America and Asia. In 2007, he was commissioned by Contrasts Gallery in Shanghai to design 2 pieces reinterpreting traditional Chinese craftsmanship in a modern, international context for the “Design Redefined” Shanghai exhibition. | Email : sdscot | Tel : 2766 4428 | | |
