Profile :Professor Ming Xi Tang graduated in 1981 with a BSc and in 1984 with an MSc from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in the People’s Republic of China. In 1996 he obtained his PhD from the Department of Artificial Intelligence at the University of Edinburgh in the UK. He worked at the University of Edinburgh, Department of Artificial Intelligence (1988 -1992), University College of London, Department of Mechanical Engineering (1992 -1994) and University of Cambridge, Engineering Design Centre (1994-1997) as a researcher before joining the School of Design of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 1997.
He is the Associate Director of the Design Technology Research Centre (DTRC) in School of Design of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The DTRC develops the methods and techniques of generative design, collaborative design using computational and cognitive models of design. His research interests include artificial intelligence in design, generative and evolutionary design systems, complex form generation and visualization, and collaborative product design technologies. He is a key member of Design and Social Development Research Centre, which is a joint centre between Yunnan University and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
He is the executive editor of the recently established International Journal of Designing in China, which is a joint publication between Zhejiang University and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.He is also a member of editorial committee for the international journal of design engineering. |
