Profile :Welby Chung, aka Ah Kuen, studied moving images and video as his major. He worked as an art director, producer and animator for television commercial animation, on-air promotion and channel identity since 1996, and teaching video and animation in university. Also, he has taken part in music videos as director, worked as a visual jockey (VJ-ing) in dancing parties, and being a VJ competition winner in the Microwave International Media Art Festival 2003.
An animation music video, “Ah Bob the Second” has won the Best Music and Sound Award in Hong Kong ICT Award 2007. “The Record Shop”, Channel [V] on air promotion has won the Best 2D Animation in Starmax 2006, an in-house Star Group limited awards and nominated as finalist in Promax and BDA 2006. And his animation for “Tai-Chi Master” on-air promotion won the Best of Library Music in Promax and BDA 2005.
His latest 2D hand-drawn animation work “I am fine” in I- City IFVA 2005 and Super8 video work “My Good Time” in IFVA 2006 has been distributed as DVD project and it has been screened by festivals worldwide. And his animation works have been highly appreciated by various parties. A 2D hand-drawn animation work, “My Dear Flower” has won the gold award in the 9th Hong Kong Independent Short Film and Video Award 2003 (IFVA), the Jury Recommendation Award in South Taiwan Film and Video Festival 2003 and the Honorable Mention Award in Berliner-Medien Festival 2004. And it is a selected screening in many international festivals, including the 9th Pusan International Film Festival 2004 and the 28th Hong Kong International Film Festival 2004.
In 2004 and 2005, he has been invited to attend the Berlinale Talent Campus, organized by Berlin International Film Festival. In 2002, he received the Goethe Institute Scholarship to Berlin for cultural exchange. He also contributes to a number of overseas and local publications, such as More or Less graphics magazine in Japan, Store Magazine…etc |
