Career Prospects
This program has created a new hybrid profession that is positioned as the catalyst for the transformation of Hong Kong into a productinnovation-sensitive economy. Students are taught to take on the integrator role, implementing product innovations in organizations. The product innovation knowledge will also be a solid foundation in technology-oriented business innovation.

Aims and Objectives
Students will gain an integrated knowledge of industrial design, manufacturing engineering and product development technology upon successful completion of this program. They will learn the principles, concepts and applications of innovative product design and development, from identifying market opportunities to launching innovative products in the marketplace. Problem-based projects will train students in design thinking and analytical and problem-solving capabilities in new product innovation. 

Characteristics
This is the first program of its kind in Hong Kong. It integrates industrial design, manufacturing engineering and new product innovation technologies. Business and marketing knowledge for new product innovation is another key component. In their Product Innovation Projects (PIPs), which combine theory and practice, students develop creative and innovative abilities in simulated and client projects. The strategic alliance of PolyU Design, Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering and Industrial Centre ensures that students have access to the best expertise and facilities.

Program Structure
The program consists of 25 subjects over the two academic years consisting of four semesters and one summer term. The design of the program is based on the concept of embracing theoretical concepts and knowledge with applicable experiences; it consists of substantial amount of laboratory work, practical training, hands-on experiments and problem-based project components. The PIP is one of the cores and is structured for problem-based learning.
