SD5301 Strategies: Final Report
Tutors: Various
The MDes Strategies course ends with a final paper SD5301. The student can choose and develop the topic under faculty guidance. The goal of the paper is to reflect on the student’s professional background, what they have learned in the programme, and a broader understanding of design in relation to some topic.
Students select a topic of interest that connects their professional experience and interests with the information and experience they gained during their master study. The goal is to combine research, reflection, and experience in order to obtain fresh understanding and insight on some problem or opportunity. The reports are diverse and demonstrate the range of student background and concern.
The following papers offer a glimpse into the concerns of the students in this programme as revealed by their final papers.

This report aims to focus on key issues driving social sustainability; to investigate and explore the potentials and difficulties in developing social enterprise business, and to map out the design and business strategies through an emerging case: Bread Plus.

SD5525 Interaction Design Workshop II
Tutors: Sharon Poggenpohl and Xin Xiangyang
Crossing cultural boundaries in travel is both exciting and frustrating. This is especially true for independent tourists who wish to experience a culture but often face language, culture, and travel arrangement difficulties. Our user for this project is an adult traveling alone or with another person, or a small self-organizing group. They do not know the language of the culture they are visiting, but they are on their own. Two team projects are presented: Fringe i and Trippie.
Projects:
Fringe I - A Tourist Aid for Young Travelers in a self-organizing group
Team: Manfred, AU Man Fung, CK, HE Zijian, Janice, LEUNG Nga Ting, Cicely, LU Yi
Fringe i facilitates group formation (communication and wayfinding) so individuals in the group can take on specific roles (transportation arranger, food finder, etc.), or after individuals go off on their own assist them to rejoin the group. The device supports immediate sharing of individual experience through sound, image or video, and can be worn in different ways for accessible use. A touch sensitive screen supports map, GPS, image functions; an ear bud supports conversation. File sharing is enabled through easy, tangible interaction between users. Project focus is on group interaction.

Trippie
Team: Rico CHAN, Carrie, LEUNG Wing Sze, Dominic, LEUNG Yu Hang, Ted, LI Yu Hang
Trippie is a network-based system that consists of digital files and an object that helps travelers before, during, and after travel with their practical travel needs. Individuals register on a website indicating their preferences and share their travel knowledge and experience. The website is a source of information—a repository of personal and collective travel images and experience. Trippie (software) can be downloaded to various existing devices or can be rented to a custom device prior to travel at airports. It has GPS, translation, messaging, and image management. Project focus is on system, interface, and interaction.
