PolyU student shines in international photography and design competitions

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University School of Design celebrated the good news brought by its student, LO Wing Kit Ricky, for his recent achievements in the international photography and the design competitions. Ricky was the only participant from the Greater China receiving the honored recognition in the categories he entered.
Ricky, the year-2 student of Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Design (Advertising), with his outstanding photography works, was shortlisted as one of the ten finalists for the 2010 Sony World Photography Awards, the global annual awards programme for both professional and amateur photographers, after going through the keen competition with over 80,000 submissions from 48 countries. Other finalists of the category came from UK, Germany, Australia, Poland, Indonesia and so on. Ricky’s work, titled “Solemn Sovereign” entered the Amateur Commercial Category in Fashion and was selected as a top ten finalist by the judging committee consisting of world renowned photographers, picture editors, curators and representatives from leading international photo agencies. Another work “Volcanic Demon” won him the championship of the Fire Elements category in the Angels & Demons Photography Competition, a thematic coherent competition under the Awards. The Competition presented one grand prize for the best overall photograph, and four prizes for the best photograph submitted for each element category. The official award presentation of the Awards will announce the results on 22 April at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes.
"Ricky is a very bright young professional with multi-talents,” Josiah Leung, Ricky's tutor in Studio Photography commented. “He learns and works independently. He does his work with passion and pursues his goal conscientiously."
Ricky’s multi-talents were also revealed by his globally recognised design portfolio. He was named as the winner of the Faces of Design Awards 2010, where his work was selected from 140 candidates from 37 countries. The design competition was based on the participants’ portfolios which were judged by a committee of leading designers. The winners’ profiles will be distributed to the world’s opinion leaders and decision makers in design companies and manufacturers including IKEA, studios and the media.
