The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) presented a total of thirty-four Outstanding Student Awards, including eight Outstanding Student Awards of Faculty/School and "The Most Outstanding PolyU Student Award" to undergraduate students who excel in both academic and non-academic pursuits at the presentation ceremony held on 15 March.
PolyU President Professor Timothy W. Tong commended the awardees for their outstanding performance. "The Outstanding Student Awards are given to students in recognition of their remarkable academic achievement, strong leadership ability, good personal qualities, as well as active involvement in extra-curricular activities and community services. The awardees are all shining examples of the University's success in nurturing competent professionals as well as future leaders for our society."
Professor Tong also encouraged students to keep up their good work and work hard for all upcoming challenges.
This year, the award of "The Most Outstanding PolyU Student" went to Miss LAU Ka Ki Vivian, a final-year student from School of Design. The other seven awardees of "Outstanding Student of Faculty/School", who are also final-year high achievers, include:
- Miss YOU Mengqiao, Faculty of Applied Science and Textiles
- Miss Chen Shiqi, Faculty of Business
- Mr LEUNG Yu Kit, Faculty of Construction and Environment
- Miss CHEUNG Ngai King, Faculty of Engineering
- Miss WONG Cheuk Yan, Faculty of Health and Social Sciences
- Miss Xu Chenzi, Faculty of Humanities
- Miss MENG Yutong, School of Hotel and Tourism Management
A certificate and a cash prize of HK$5,000, HK$3,000 and HK$2,000 are awarded to each recipient of "The Most Outstanding PolyU Student", "Outstanding Student of Faculty/School" and "Outstanding Student of Department" respectively. The names of awardees of "The Most Outstanding PolyU Student Award" and "Outstanding Student Award of Faculty/School" are inscribed on a plaque to be erected at a prominent spot on campus for one year.
PolyU's Outstanding Student Award is granted on an annual basis to full-time final-year students who excel in both academic and non-academic pursuits during their studies. Each academic department is to select an outstanding student to receive the "Outstanding Student Award of Department". These outstanding students of departments under the purview of the same faculty will then compete with each other for the "Outstanding Student Award of Faculty", whilst the outstanding students selected by the schools not under the purview of a faculty will receive the "Outstanding Student Award of School". "The Most Outstanding PolyU Student" will then be selected among the eight awardees from six faculties and two independent schools.
