Dr. Newman Lau serves as Associate Professor in School of Design, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He specializes in capturing, analyzing and synthesizing human character motion for games and animation. He has been working in digital multimedia and computer graphics for years. He is the supervisor, leading the motion research team and oversees the Motion Analysis 12-camera optical motion capture studio.
His research and development areas of interests include optical motion capture technology, character animation, movement analysis, online interactivity, user experience design, interactive media, and cross-disciplinary multimedia works. Some of his recent projects include interactivity and exercise gaming for health care, platform for teaching and learning, etc. He is interested and responsible for building technical infrastructure, leading the development team and implement architecture for research and collaboration.
