For JUPAS Applicants

Programme: BA (Hons) Scheme in Design (JUPAS code: JS3569)

Students will be awarded one of the following titles upon successful completion of the graduation requirements of the discipline concerned:

  • BA(Hons) in Advertising Design (Stream Code: AD);
  • BA(Hons) in Communication Design (Stream Code: CD);
  • BA(Hons) in Environment and Interior Design (Stream Code: EID); or
  • BA(Hons) in Product Design (Stream Code: PRD).

Entrance Requirements and Subject Weightings

Satisfy the University’s General Entrance Requirements of 4 core and 2 elective subjects with:

  • Level 3 in English Language, Chinese Language and two elective subjects; and
  • Level 2 in Mathematics and Liberal Studies.

There is no compulsory subject requirement. Students from both Arts and Science streams are accepted and applicants who have shown an interest in design are encouraged to apply to the programme.

Preferred elective subjects for the programme include:

Remarks

  • Normally, only those applicants who choose this programme as their Band A choice throughout the application process, and have fulfilled the University's minimum entrance requirements, will be considered.
  • All applicants are required to declare their intended choice of Discipline before the aptitude test stage. 

Applicants with top HKDSE scores will be exceptionally considered after HKDSE result announcement.

2.

Interview Arrangement

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an aptitude test in May. Also, applicants who have chosen Advertising Design or Communication Design discipline are required to submit an online portfolio via our SD website after the aptitude test.

Applicants may be invited to attend an interview after the announcement of HKDSE results with portfolio presentation (for all discipline) based on their performance in the aptitude test and their best 5 HKDSE subjects.

Top HKDSE scorers (among the top 25% prioritisation score range as a whole) will be directly offered a spot in the scheme, without having to sit for an interview.

Entrance Requirements

  • (A-Level qualifications) E in 3 A-Level subjects OR E in 2 A-Level and 2 AS-Level subjects AND satisfy the English Language Requirement;
    OR
  • (International Baccalaureate) A minimum score of 24 with at least grade 4 in 2 Higher Level (HL) subjects AND satisfy the English Language Requirement;
    OR
  • An appropriate Diploma passed with credit or an appropriate Higher Certificate from a recognised institution;
    OR
  • An appropriate Associate Degree / Higher Diploma from a recognised institution (may apply for senior year places admission);
    OR
  • Other non-local qualifications AND satisfy the English Language Requirement (Please click HERE for details)

Remarks

  • For applicants with A-Level / IB qualifications, or the equivalent, they may be granted a maximum of 25% credit transfer for the award requirement, and each case will be considered based on individual merits.
  • Only applicants who choose this programme as their First Choice will be considered.
  • Applicants are required to choose the discipline that they would like to pursue in the online application form.

Interview Arrangement

Applicants are required to submit their portfolio in March. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for interview with portfolio presentation in late March/ early April.

-          A Higher Diploma, an Associate Degree or an equivalent qualification in Design, Art, Education or a relevant discipline, preferably with 1 year of work experience;
OR

-          A Teacher’s Certificate or a Certificate in Education (with art, culture or design elective studies) with 1 year of work experience; 
OR

-          A Diploma or a Higher Certificate in Design or a relevant discipline from a recognised institute with 2 years of working experience and professional experience in design.

Remarks

Application materials will be available on the PolyU SPEED website and in its offices during the application period tentatively scheduled from February to April.

 

BA (Hons) in Digital Media

1.

Entrance Requirements

A Higher Diploma or an Associate Degree in a relevant discipline from a recognised institution.

Remark

Offer preference may be given to applicants who has satisfied the minimum English language requirement.

2.

Interview Arrangement

Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend an aptitude test and/or an interview between March and June.

Shortlisted applicants will be informed in due course about details of portfolio submission.

 

BA (Hons) in Interactive Media

1.

Entrance Requirements

A Higher Diploma, an Associate Degree in Multimedia Design, Digital Entertainment, Information Technology, Electronic Commerce, or related disciplines.

2.

Interview Arrangement

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to submit a demo video and attend an aptitude test and interview between March and April.

 

BA (Hons) in Social Design (*Subject to Approval)

1.

Entrance Requirements

Applicants with an Associate Degree or a Higher Diploma in Design/Design Studies, Social Sciences, Technology or related disciplines (e.g. Business Studies) from a recognised institution.

Remarks

-          This programme will consider second choice applications, but preference will be given to first choice applications.

-          Applicants are expected to have good language skills.

Interview Arrangement

Shortlisted Applicants will be invited for an Aptitude / English written test and interview with portfolio review in late March/ early April.

  • (GCE A-Level/ International A-Level qualifications) GCE Advanced Level or International Advanced Level with passes in 3 AL, OR 2 AL and 2 AS, subjects (This is only the minimum eligibility criteria. Applicants who gain admission, typically, attain at least BBB in 3 AL subjects.);
    OR
  • (International Baccalaureate) A minimum score of 24 with at least grade 4 in 2 Higher Level subjects (This is only the minimum eligibility criteria. Applicants who gain admission, typically, attain a score of 30 or above, including bonus points.);

Remarks

  • For applicants with GCE A-Level/ International A-Level or IB qualifications may be granted a maximum of 25% credit transfer upon admission to the 4-year degree curriculum, and each case will be considered based on individual merits.
