The incredible material property of PET bottle

To upcycle we need to understand the fundamentals of material, we need to touch and feel, so we can get different perspectives from to ordinary trash.

PET bottles are one of the biggest category of trash all over the world, as we all know plastics are evil, it pollutes the world and it's so hard to degrade, but on the other hand, they are durable and strong, ending their their lifespan after finishing your drink is total waste, they deserve to live longer on other applications.

In this program we will try to explore the material property of PET so we can give them a much longer lifespan.

Objectives

  • Understanding the material property of PET,  then extract filaments from the PET bottles
  • Use the filaments that extracted from the bottle to create useful designs

Activity

  • Introduction to Polymer in general, then further explore PET, its synthesis process, its behaviour in different environments
  • Extract the filament from PET bottles using pet bottle cutter, observe and feel the actualmaterial property
  • Use the filament to create simple designs
